The sands in the hourglass are about to run out on this year of 2024. It has been a real mixed bag for me both professionally and personally and sometimes that bag incorporated both at the same time. There was much sadness this year as I/We lost many people dear to us as friends, family, us as colleagues, and us in the diabetes community. Take a moment to remember these people who make up the fabric of your life’s tapestry and who you are. If they stood for something, don’t be afraid to take a stand and have your voice heard. If they made this world special, try to do the same.
One thing I know I’m going to do this upcoming year is start with that man in the mirror. What can he do to make a difference, and impact the so many that need help. Impact the causes that need a voice. Impact the world around us and taking up that saying I love; and just don’t do nothing.
There is no effort too small. And impact is an impact. A worldwide cause, a family loved one in need, a community volunteer, a neighbor who is alone; the possibilities are only limited by your imagination, desire, and ability. Asking yourself how can just one person make a difference, to someone who has nothing, that one person is a force to be reckoned with every day. Be that force.
Be thankful and do not be afraid. My friend Laurie posted on December 22nd; Tell Someone you love them today because tomorrow isn’t promised. To my family and friends, I love you. Almost prophetic, she was gone less than a week later. There is no guarantee on tomorrow….for anyone.
So be thankful as the New Year begins. Make the decision today, that tomorrow will be and can be different than today. For someone you love, know, work with, or even for yourself burn your bright light to make a difference. Someone is not as well off as you are, know this and look to share the light you have and know that the answers will all start with you.
What will you do differently? What will you do to make a larger impact on this world. Look at that reflection in the mirror and make that promise to yourself. TODAY, WILL BE DIFFERENT. Then let me know what that reflection shares back with you a week later. You just have to start……..life will take it from there. May you be blessed in 2025 and thank you for being part of my life
