She is a living example that just because someone is young, that they cannot make a big difference in this world. Change begins by taking a first-step—that step became a leap, Make no mistake about it that Christina Roth is a major force within the diabetes community. She is the CEO and Creator of the College Diabetes Network and you simple must spend time knowing about what they do whether you have a child-age college, or will someday; this is a site you must get to know.
A quick bio from the CDN website:
Christina graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, with both departmental honors in Psychology and “honors of greatest distinction” from the Commonwealth Honors College. She is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society, the Psi Chi National Honor Society, and the Alpha Beta Kappa Honor Society, and was the recipient of a Commonwealth College honors research grant to fund her thesis research looking at strengths and competencies in adopted adolescents which Christina then presented at 3 regional conferences and the International Conference on Adoption Research (ICAR3) in Leiden, the Netherlands in 2010. At the age of 14 Christina was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, which has fueled her passion in helping other people living with the disease. In her junior year at UMass, Christina founded the College Diabetes Network (CDN) both as a national organization and as a local chapter at UMass. For her work with CDN, Christina was the recipient of the Bateman Family Memorial Scholarship, the 21st Century Leader Award, the Class of 1941 Humanitarian Award, and the UMass Amherst recipient of the Massachusetts governor’s “29 Who Shine” award. After graduating in May 2011, Christina worked as a research assistant at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, MA, before transitioning to run CDN full-time in 2012. Christina was appointed Chief Executive Officer of CDN in January of 2013.
Christina has surrounded herself with some top people making this idea work….and work it is exactly what she is doing every day. She is a remarkable person with a drive that would tire 50 people doing what she does. She is such an inspiration and truly a person who is living proof that anything and EVERYTHING is possible.
For Diabetes Awareness Month:
This month, I will be highlighting someone in the diabetes community. They may be people you know, or might not know, but they give of themselves to make this world, our world, with diabetes a special place. I will not get to everyone this month, but it is my hope that perhaps you can be introduced to some of those you may not know.
I’m certainly not the definitive on who should be included….you are. If you think I should include someone, shoot me an email at tkarlya@drif.org and I will do what I can to include that person as well. Welcome to diabetes awareness month.
I am a diabetes dad.

Oh my. What’s with the statement, “Do not let this beautiful face make you believe for one second that young people cannot make a huge impact in this world”? You try so hard to squash stereotypes about people who have diabetes but here you are just playing into another one – beauty and intelligence/ability to make a difference can’t go hand-in-hand. Please rethink what you put into print for all of your “fans” to see.
Duly noted. Thanks for the input. I actually just changed the post. Of course I did not mean it that way but I understand your point.
