Diabetes Jeopardy Answer #22 for D-Month: On the Anniversary of that Fateful Day In Dallas; Something WONDERFUL from the State of Texas.

pam henry….and the answer is, who is Pam Henry.

It just seemed to me that with the 50th anniversary of that fateful day in Dallas being today, I needed to write about something hugely positive that came from the wonderful state of Texas……I found my answer of course, in Pam Henry, her husband John, and their incredible team based out of Allen, Texas.  Pam’s creation of a means for ever parent to stay in touch with their child (and their child to stay in touch with their ‘entire medical team’ from school nurse to Doctor) is not only commendable, it is a downright necessity in today’s world.

In my humble opinion, what is needed is for some company to reach out to them and say EVERY Family needs to have this incredible opportunity and life-saving tool—-let us help you ‘get the word out’.  There is only so much this dynamic family can do on their own.

Pam is a mom who, when needed, could not find out what the blood sugar was of her child at school.  To never be out of touch with her daughter ever again, Supermom Pam created My Care Connect which is now called Blue Loop which is described in the following way:
My daughter, Sarah, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in January 2003. Once the initial shock wore off, my maternal instincts took over. I wanted to protect my child from the long-term effects of this disease. So I created an online communication tool that gives me – and all Sarah’s caregivers – more control over her daily care. It tells me, real-time, exactly how she’s doing at school, allows me to communicate back and forth with her school and doctors, and I can send BG logs to her doctor’s office…no more faxing, no more phone tag.

Just a mom making a difference…….BIG TIME!

For Diabetes Awareness Month:
This month, I will be highlighting someone in the diabetes community.  They may be people you know, or might not know, but they give of themselves to make this world, our world, with diabetes a special place.   I will not get to everyone this month, but it is my hope that perhaps you can be introduced to some of those you may not know.

I’m certainly not the definitive on who should be included….you are.  If you think I should include someone, shoot me an email at tkarlya@drif.org and I will do what I can to include that person as well.  Welcome to diabetes awareness month.

I am a diabetes dad.
