I think I know when it started, but if I am incorrect I’m sure one of my readers will jump in and correct me.
I credit Dr. Francine Kaufman who is a world leader in diabetes and she is one of the most incredible woman I have met in my twenty year diabetes journey.
I could swear that there are more than one Dr. Fran Kaufman’s’ in this world because no one person could possibly accomplish what she has done in one life time. You can read her biography by clicking here.
She also, to me, with her 2005 Book ‘Diabesity’ started a new ‘wave’ in the diabetes community; what can we do to the word ‘diabetes’ to make it catchy and attention grabbing. It surely worked as the title of her book and I remember seeing it for the first time and saying; “Now that is a brilliant word”.
Now one could argue that diabetologist was there first and that might be correct but it very well could be that Dr. Kaufman’s changing of the word started this new wave of creative thinking when it comes to the word ‘diabetes’. Just some of the words I know or have read about, some are ‘cute’-some represent further meanings; but all catch your attention none-the-less:
And I am sure there are more.
Clearly there are some very good imaginations out there and how the word is used. Not even to mention when diabetes is used as a two-word attention grabber.
Feel free to add your own.
Perhaps I could shorten mine to ‘Diabedad.’…what do you think?
