To be very honest, I know little about this aspect of diabetes. But when I saw it as the top story in Yahoo news I felt compelled to share it with you all. I have a few problems with not only parts of the article, but some of the accompanying videos that surround it. I will save my editorial comments and put this out there for others who certainly know more than I to share their feelings.
I do know people who have lived through this nightmare and this heartache. I share with you and ask if you have anything to add, please feel free. If it is a fear, if you have lived it, and/or you know about it feel to add to the reply on this article.
What a brave young lady to take her story ‘out there’ among the masses and surely this will reach beyond the borders of just the diabetes community. Already comments are being posted.
Be warned that the comments already being posted after the article might very well show you some of the problems, we as a diabetes community, continually face on the education of the masses.
Here is where you can find the article:

Not an easy read so I caution you in advance.
I am a diabetes dad.

This is very typical of teen girls behavior. There is way to much concern on the way you look rather than on healthy eating. I am glad she shared.
Its not only teen girls who do this. Its not typical and there is something very seriously wrong with them when they do this or any other type of eating disorder.
I have lived through this and still go through it at times. Especially if one of my other issues plays a role in it. Its a very real thing and yes there are a lot of people who will not touch the subject.
Bennet Dunlap shared the following on a FB page—certainly worthy to share with all:
A number of PWD with first hand experience with the struggle of eating disorders and diabetes shared links as part of National Eating Disorder Awareness weeks. See: http://diabetesadvocates.org/c/eating-disorders-and-diabetes-everybody-knows-somebody/
Very scary stuff Tom – glad this woman had the courage to share her story – I fear that due to societies need to see all woman thin that this is happening more than we know with people with Type 1. Thanks for sharing even if it was hard to read.
