Manny is no stranger to the diabetes community and his impact is felt world-wide. He was an Engineer from Venezuela, a Web Product Manager and an Internet Marketing Specialist with type 1 diabetes, Manny became determined to push social networks beyond plain socializing in late 2006.
In 2007, he started TuDiabetes.org and EsTuDiabetes.org along with his wife, Andreina Davila. In 2008 they co-founded Diabetes Hands Foundation and served as Chairman of the board between 2008 and 2012, growing the board from 5 members to 14, to support the organization’s growth beyond half a million US$ in annual revenue. As President of the Diabetes Hands Foundation, he is responsible for program strategy, fundraising, and partnership development. His Big Blue Test is an annual event where 20,000 people are asked to participate–you can too by clicking here; it is simple and easy and you will help a whole bunch of people. He currently serves as advisor for IDF’s Life for a Child Program; USC Annenberg School for Communication: The California Endowment Health Journalism Fellowships; Insulindependence, Inc.; and DASH Sports Education.
He also worked with many others to create the Diabetes Advocates which is made up of many of the online writers. He is a tireless advocate for so many who live with diabetes every day. Whenever in a room, with Manny, he is the first person to defer the credit and/or attention off himself and to give it elsewhere. His passion for children with diabetes in third world countries is enormous. And just when you think he is done working on a project, he takes on something new. He is a power house in our community.
………….The answer for today is Manny Hernandez
This month, I will be highlighting someone in the diabetes community. They may be people you know, or might not know, but they give of themselves to make this world, our world, with diabetes a special place. I will not get to everyone this month, but it is my hope that perhaps you can be introduced to some of those you may not know.
But who am I? If you think I should include someone, shoot me an email at tkarlya@drif.org and I will do what I can to include that person as well. Welcome to diabetes awareness month.
I am a diabetes dad
